Sven - back on the scene in Nottingham? Photo Richard Gawood CCANC
The Sun will tackle almost any club and any person and put together any rumour, but they may have over-reached just a little bit by linking former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson with a job at Notts County:
Notts County go for… Sven
League Two minnows Notts County are lining up an amazing move for former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson.
Now, with a story of that magnitude and unlikelihood, it’s not unreasonable to expect some evidence. Let’s see where the Sun take this:
Arab consortium Munto Finance took charge at Meadow Lane last week and are keen to appoint the Swede.
But Eriksson is likely to want a more high-profile club.
Riiight. Not really evidence as much as it is a repetition of the headline. Then the article is rounded off by affirming that Eriksson is unlikely to take charge of a team playing in the fourth tier of English football. Who knew?
The caption to accompany the photo of Sven is great, too - I’m a kit confused… Sven might mistake the black and whites of Notts County for Juventus. Erm… why? The journey up to Nottingham for his interview might be a clue. So too Meadow Lane and… you know, there’s no need to go on - obviously he won’t mix them up. More likely mix-up is Newcastle - at least they’re both in the same country. Although even then we suspect he won’t accidentally think he’s managing another team.
Incidentally, Notts County already have a manager - Ian McParland - but don’t worry - we’re sure that won’t be the reason that Sven doesn’t sign up.

Update July 22nd - it appears that of all the things in the world we wouldn’t have predicted (and you’ve read the Sun’s piece - it’s hardly as if they were convinced) this one might be true. We’ll keep an eye on the story today. Wow.
In unrelated news, the only Hooters in the UK is ten minutes walk from Meadow Lane
