Ah, but Stan Collymore IS funny. If inadvertently. And thanks! We have some unfinished business when it comes to World Cup finals.

Thanks for your comment Robbert, though we now feel a little guilty having left the link to the page and making it possible for you to read more...

Yeah, the drugs 'joke' was pretty poor, and the logic based on country size is flawed as you quite rightly point out.

It seems that since it is a betting column and he fulfills the criteria for the column of dishing out tips, he has carte blanche to fill the space with his own unique brand of humour. I say unique, but in truth he is following in the dubious footsteps of Roy Chubby Brown, Mike Reid, Jim Davidson etc. with dreadful blue jokes, weak puns and stereotypes that make you grown.

He may even be the man that breaks our spirit - so bad we can't even bring ourselves to read him in again order to write anymore articles on his column, which given we still regularly feature John Cross and Stan Collymore is some going from McGovern!

Lastly, congratulation on Holland making the final - good luck on Sunday!

In retrospect I'm not entirely sure why, but I followed the link you provided and had a look at other McGovern 'gems'. What a thoroughly odious little man. On tonight's semi-final between Holland and Uruguay:

"Playing at altitude in South Africa has been no problem for Holland and that comes as little surprise since half of Amsterdam is permanently high."

Yaaaawn. As a Dutchman, I find the propagation of that particular stereotype lazy, tedious and utterly unfunny. But there's more!

"Their reward for beating World Cup favourites Brazil in the quarter-final is a semi-final against Uruguay, a country with a population of just 3.5million, most of whom are banned from tonight's game."

Holland has 16 million inhabitants, Brazil 192 million. I'm pretty sure therefore that however much McGovern implies that Uruguay doesn't stand a chance due to their size, it really has little bearing on it.

And then there's another 3 or 4 embarrassingly unfunny jokes that I can't be bothered to copy/paste.

This really is one of the most awful things I've read in a while.
