Write for SWS

We are looking for people to write for Sport without Spin. Although we enjoy finding the more remarkable comments, flawed arguments and examples of poor reporting, the fact that there are only two of us means that we are not exhaustive - and for everything that we do cover, there is always another thing we don’t quite have time to get to.

If you’d like to write something for us, then please get in touch.

You could write for us once - you could write for us regularly - you could write for us only when the mood takes you.

There are a few guidelines below which we would ask you to have a look at, and some instructions for how to get going:

Subject matter - You will most likely have read the sorts of subjects we cover through reading articles here - if not, then do have a read through some articles. If the subject deals with things like transfers, misquotes, chat, shoddy journalism and so forth, as long as it’s to do with sport you can tackle any subject matter. If you have an idea that does not fall into our typical subject matter, then let us know and we can consider it.

Quoting and supporting - Always make a note of your sources and quotes - keep weblinks handy so they can be added to the piece. Part of the ease of use of this site is that we have links to all the relevant information we have gathered in each article, so either have the links inbuilt in your articles or keep a list which we can add to your work.

Spelling and grammar - Try to check these thoroughly before submission - however, we will proof them before publication online.

Editing - To ensure the consistency and style of the website’s articles, we reserve the right to edit your work - however, it is not our intention to change your copy, and we will not intervene with anything major unless we have discussed it with you beforehand.

Publishing - Submit us your first piece by email, and we will look at it, and once it is ready we will create the article for you. Thereafter, we will create a login to the website for you, at which point you’ll be able to put your own work together online for submission.

The sun have written a story about Rooney ‘demanding a central striking role’ but really he has just said his favourite position is up front. Not particularly juicy story, beefed up for impact!!

    Gents,

I’ve nominated your site in the SoccerLens awards: http://soccerlens.com/awards/2009-soccerlens-awards/

I’ve put you down for best writers, but also as a generic nomination. They tend to like these sort of nominations, as they have other awards too. You might want to do a little vote-whoring on your site, as it may take a few nominations! Good luck,

    Gav
